Do people return to work after retiring in the UK?

13 April 2016

This presentation examines whether people take up paid work again after retiring, a phenomenon which has been described as a ”retirement reversal” or ”unretirement”. The research uses data from the British Household Panel Survey and follows up participants, where possible, into Understanding Society. For the period 1992-2013, it examines the proportions of British retirees who unretire, how quickly they unretire if they are going to do so, and which factors predict unretirement.
